The Spring Festival is the most solemn traditional festival of the Chinese nation and an important carrier of Chinese culture. The "Happy New Year" project reflects the national position and international vision, spreading the traditional Chinese festival culture to the world. As one of the highlights of the "Happy New Year" in 2018, the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, appointed by the Ministry of Culture, and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture , launched a spectacular and exciting performance in the four cities of the United States from February 15 to 25. The event was a great success, promoting the values and connotations of the Chinese New Year family reunion, the pursuit of beauty and the promotion of peace. It has brought together overseas Chinese, shared the joy of Chinese New year with the local American people, played a positive role in promoting Chinese culture, contributed to the country, and won praise for Zhejiang. The orchestra is very grateful to the department of culture for its efforts to win the opportunity of this meaningful foreign trip to the United States during the "Happy New Year" and for its guidance and support in the development of the orchestra's repertoire for foreign affairs activities.

 I. Excellent preparation, meticulous connection and excellent performance. The American tour of "Happy New Year" of Zhejiang Orchestra focuses on excellence.

( I ) Pre-preparation and adequate planning.

Take the initiative to discuss with the organizers, U. S. inviters, China Foreign Cultural Group contractor and select and schedule the program carefully. Each work was decomposed and implemented layer by layer, and the responsibility was placed on people to ensure the orderly progress of the activities. In cooperation, China Foreign Culture Group Corporation praised our team was the best quality of many of the teams they have met with the most sophisticated visit organization business and the least trouble!

(II) Warm up in the air to show mission and responsibility.

When the Chinese land was immersed in the celebration of the New year, ten thousand meters above the plane, "Spring Festival Gala" presented itself. The orchestra briefed passengers from different countries and with different colors on their trip to the United States for the "Happy New Year" tour and carefully prepared shows for passengers. Trumpet solo Olive Necklace, clarinet duet Making Hay, flute solo Whip Horse On and Joyful, string quintet Happy New Spring, A Beautiful Night andBlooming Flowers and Full Moon, music with moving melodies and condensed spirit of the nation became the symbols of the spirit of the New Year, and got into the ears of all the passengers. With the applause of the passengers, the cabin was filled with New Year's eve's joy and peace! The mission and responsibility of spreading the traditional Chinese festival culture has been highlighted when it was not delivered to the United States. (III) Connect the world's cultural ties with music and build a bridge of friendship.

The Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, appointed by the Ministry of Culture, and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, at the invitation of the Chicago symphony orchestra, the Detroit symphony orchestra, the Muscatine China initiative committee and the San Diego Yantai friendship association, went to Chicago, Detroit, Muscatine and San Diego to perform "Happy New Year" from February 15 to 25, which perfected the fusion of Chinese elements and Zhejiang music with western music. The four performances were splendid and received praise and wide recognition from Chinese and foreign friends. Whether performing pure Chinese music concerts in Chicago and San Diego stations like Five Pieces of Drama Music, Picturesque Zhejiang, Primitive Safari, Three Romantic Songs, Lift Your Veil, A Beautiful Night and Crossing the River or performing special concerts interspersed with performances in Detroit and Muscatine to demonstrate the orchestra's mastery of Chinese and western trackside like Symphony No. 1 in D major, Journey To Suzhou, Andante Cantabile and the Dance of the Yao People, they were all praised and recognized by Chinese and foreign friends. The complete success of the tour has shown the orchestra's efforts to spread the Chinese Spring Festival culture and promote peace and friendship. It has also enabled the people of the two countries to understand each other's culture better through music and played the role of a tie and a bridge on the road of enhancing the friendship between the two peoples. It was praised by Consul General Hong Lei of the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago as "a great success in the form of a performance that combines Chinese and Western aspects, and contributes to the deep friendly exchanges between the two countries and to the intercommunion of people's hearts and minds."

(IV)The American tour of Happy New Year has a wide range of influences.

The Orchestra's four performances in the United States in 10 days drew nearly 10,000 spectators. Among them, for the Chicago Station show, the ticket was sold out shortly after it was issued. Unlike many of the band's previous overseas performances, which attracted a large number of local Chinese and overseas Chinese audiences, the tour was aimed at a large mainstream audience, with nearly half of Americans and nearly half of Chinese visiting Chicago and San Diego stations; The Detroit and Muscatine stations were dominated by local audiences, more than 70 to 80 percent. Leaders of Chinese embassies and consulates abroad and heads of local governments and organizations attended each performance of the orchestra. For example, at Chicago Station, Consul General Hong Lei of the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, Cultural Counselor Zhang Min, Mr. Jason, head of the China Project of the Chicago Tourism Board, Mr. James, Project Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and other guests came to watch the performance; In Detroit, Liujun, deputy consul general of Chinese consulate of China in Chicago, Ms. Anne Parsons, the Detroit symphony orchestra chairman and chief executive officer, related institutions guests of Michigan came to watch the show; in Muscatine, Ms. Reynolds, Iowa governor, Ms.Broadson, Mayor of Muscatine, Dan stein, chairman of the Muscatine China friendship committee and other guests were invited to attend and watch the performances; At San Diego station, consul general Zhang Ping of the Chinese consulate general in Los Angeles and Gu Jin, counselor of the department of cultureattended the performance.

(V) The "Happy New Year" US tour received high praise.

Although visiting city was different, the four performances of the orchestra were warmly welcomed and loved by the audience. At the end of almost every piece of music, the audience broke out into loud applause and cheers. After the end of the performance, the whole audience rose to applaud warmly and invited the conductor Zhang Yi to return to the show and give additional performances. In an interview after the show to the audience, the audience praised the performance was very exciting and moving, said they loved "Happy New Year" from the bottom of heart and also welcomed and thanked the orchestra for coming and congratulations on the great success of the performance! Many viewers excitedly said that the more they listened to the music, the more they wanted to hear it! The Orchestra not only has brought a strong Chinese flavor to the local American audience, but also fully demonstrated the broad and profound charm of Chinese culture and music. Consul General Hong Lei praised our performance as a comprehensive display of the great beauty of Chinese culture on this important stage in Chicago! Deputy Consul General Liu Jun also fully acknowledged our performance. The band's level of performance has also been recognized by the industry. Ms. Parsons, president of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, said: "the orchestra is amazing. Its members are young, they have a solid track record, they play very well, show her love to the orchestra, and congratulate the orchestra on its great success.""Culture is the messenger," said Consul General Zhang Ping of the Consulate General in Los Angeles. "the performance has further strengthened the friendship of the people of Southern California, especially San Diego, towards China."After the performance at San Diego Station, the Counselor also took the stage to thank the Orchestra, hoping that the Orchestra would continue its efforts and contribute more to the cultural exchange between China and the outside world.

II. Accurate efforts, sincere integration, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra U. S. tour highlight is very "bright."

(I) Strengthened publicity. In the past, the orchestra's overseas propaganda work was basically composed of three parts: invite the media to report before going abroad, write a summary after returning to China, and then invite the domestic media to report. The tour of the United States, under the guidance of the Department of Culture and Foreign Affairs of the Department of Culture, achieved the purpose of informing the public on the way. It was reported at each station. From the pre-trip release, the promotion of the performance on the plane of the New Year Eve, to the four performances and the summary of returning to China, the manuscripts were written and published in time and sent to the domestic cooperative media for publicity.During the tour, apart from the orchestra's own official account, more than 10 domestic media have published more than 50 articles in total, including People's Daily Online, Zhejiang News, ChinaNews, Phoenix Entertainment, CCTV, Zhejiang Satellite TV, Sina, Xinhuanet, Sohu, Dazhong News, Cultural Communication Network, Global Performing Arts, Music Weekly and Zhejiang Daily. So far, the orchestra has collected more than 10 reports from the Chicago Chinese-language tribune and local American media, greatly increasing the influence and radiation of the event.

(II) The sense of Chinese cultural identity and integration (Muscatine) has advanced in depth.

When the orchestra entered the land of Muscatine, the orchestra's staff were "recognized" by the local families of Muscatine and were integrated into every ordinary family and become a new member of the local family. Eating and living together, learning skills, posting Spring Festival couplets to celebrate the Chinese New year, they spent two days of precious time.In particular, the band's performers generally have a good command of English, communicated freely, and built a strong family relationship with the local family. The two members of the orchestra also lived in the home of Ms. Sara Randi, who hosted President Xi Jinping in 1985, reunited with him in 2012 and was invited to China.Through in-depth communication with Ms. Randi and other local families, the orchestra witnessed and experienced the long history of friendly exchanges with Chinese people.

At the night of the performance, in this small town of just over 20,000 people in Iowa, the concert hall at Muscatine central high school, which can hold nearly 1,000 people, was occupied and more than 80 percent of the audience were local residents. In addition to the members of the public full of curiosity and expectation of the orchestra, Ms. Reynolds, Iowa governor, Ms. Broadson, Mayor of Muscatine, Dan stein, chairman of the Muscatine China friendship committee and other guests were invited to attend and watch the performances. Prior to the performance, orchestra leader Zhou Lifang gave a speech on behalf of Zhejiang, and local organizations also presented the Orchestra with a medal of thanks.

The Orchestra's performance was warmly welcomed by Muscatine's audience, and each piece of music broke out with warm applause and cheers from the audience. The performance has been not only a real Chinese music feast, but also an interactive carnival between musicians and local people. For many of the Muscatine audience, the ensemble members were not only musicians from distant China, but also "family" with whom they lived together. Following the tradition of the "Happy New Year" program in Muscatine, members of the orchestra, accompanied by local families, also visited the Muscatine Library, City Hall, and the Sino-American Friendship House. As the orchestra left, the local families saw off their members at 2 A. m., tearful in the cold wind, hugging and saying goodbye. Particularly impressive was that a woman who worked as a flight attendant, knew very well our plane meals was not ideal, afraid of the orchestra members might not have enough to eat on the plane. She especially presented a large box of cake pieces made by herself and stood in the cold wind for nearly an hour. When zhou lifang, the head of the delegation, heard the news, went to receive the lady's gift and hugged her and shook hands, she found her chilled by the cold wind. Zhou Lifang moved with tears and draped her scarf over the lady. Just as the House of Friendship between China and the United States is a testament to local cooperation and folk friendship between China and the United States. The Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra's "Happy New Year" performance in USA not only brought the joy of the Chinese New year to local audiences, but also enabled the American people to understand China and Zhejiang from music through Muscatine, an important window for Sino-US exchanges. Let them feel the friendliness of Chinese people and the charm of Chinese culture through daily contact, so that the friendship between China and the United States can continue to develop through "music bridge" and "folk diplomacy" in a sustainable way.

III. The implementation of the "Happy New Year" project harvests profound experience and rich results.

(I) Experience

1.1. A high position is an important prerequisite for carrying out the "Happy New Year" task. Through our own implementation and experience, we have deeply realized that overseas "Happy New Year" activities have actively advocated the value concept of "joy", "harmony", "sharing" and "blessing", and highlighted the theme of "Happy New Year, harmonious World". It not only embodies the good wishes of the Chinese nation, but also fully reflects the good aspirations of the people of all countries. We must carry out it from the perspective of serving the overall situation of national diplomacy, implement it with higher standards and stricter requirements, actively tell the story of China and the story of Zhejiang, and show the confidence of the Chinese nation's culture.

2. Advanced planning and meticulous organization is an important guarantee of "Happy New Year."To promote culture to go out, we need the proper guidance of the Department of Culture, the good platform, the good group, the good works, the good form, the good operation, the good propaganda, the good organization and implementation, and these elements are indispensable.

3. Music is an important carrier of Happy New Year and selecting proper tracks that meet supply and demand is priority. Music is the universal language of the human race, and the orchestra has made that clear again through its US tour. The applause and cheers from the tour showed that the audience's response was not out of courtesy, but from the resonance and affection of music.

Adaptation to local conditions is an important principle to ensure the effect of "Happy New Year". Only by truly entering the local mainstream society to perform and summarize experience can we know how to promote the culture to go out better. Going out is not only to blindly cater to the tastes of foreign audiences, nor is it wishful thinking to instill what you already have, but to find the point of organic combination of the two, to find the forms and works that are accepted by foreign audiences first, and then to push them forward step by step.

(II) Harvest

1. Further understand the taste and acceptance of the foreign audience. It has accumulated experience for further establishing and enriching the repertoire library and performing form of the orchestra and entering the foreign market.

2. Played its own role. It has helped to promote the "Happy New Year" , a brand that China is proud of, boosting the spread of Chinese New Year ' s Spring Festival culture , and sowing the seeds of Chinese culture in the United States with excellent musical works and colorful performance activities . It provides a wonderful and charming "Zhejiang Sound " for the mainstream American social audience .

3. The team was tempered. During this American tour, it was very hard to move around 4 places in 10 days. One is lack of sleep due to jet lag, and the other is high tight schedule pressure. Many performance staff felt very tired and uncomfortable, but they still completed the performance with a high attitude and dedicated team performance, which was an excellent exercise for the team.

4. Strengthened exchanges with world-renowned orchestras, broadened horizon and boosted morale.

5. Enhanced communication and exchanges with China foreign culture group corporation, overseas consulates, local orchestras and cultural promotion agencies. It laid a foundation for the orchestra to have more channels and opportunities to go out in the future.

6. Enhanced the popularity of the orchestra and Chinese music. It shows the Chinese spirit, the national image and the unique charm culture.
